Background
Cynthia Svigals is a dance artist and yoga teacher who has been leading movement classes for nearly three decades. After graduating with a BA in Dance from Connecticut College, she spent eight years performing throughout the US and abroad as a member of Jane Comfort and Company. Additionally, she was a performer in various projects with Cynthia Oliver’s COCo Dance Theater, and also worked with a handful of choreographers on independent pieces. Cynthia’s own choreography has been presented in NYC at Dixon Place, Mulberry Street Theater, and Dance Space Inc. She currently collaborates with fellow Rivertown artists Joel Sherry and Michelle Wurf under the collective known as Teatolocal.

As a yoga instructor, Cynthia began teaching in 1998 after completing a 200hr training with Cyndi Lee at Om Yoga Center. While leading classes and workshops in studios throughout NYC, she continued her studies participating in teacher trainings with both Rodney Yee and Shiva Rea, as well as a prenatal teaching training with Gina Menza of ISHTA Yoga. In 2015, Cynthia took part in Liberation Prison Yoga's trauma informed training, and since then has had the privilege to lead weekly classes for incarcerated women in Bedford, NY.

What she does
Cynthia teaches yoga and movement classes for all ages throughout Westchester & NYC. In addition to the traditional studio setting, she has taught extensively in schools, creating yoga and mindfulness programs for preschoolers up through fifth grade, as well as individual classes for tweens and teens. She has also led a variety of classes in corporate settings ranging from one time mindfulness workshops to weekly group classes.

Whatever the setting, Cynthia believes in the power of movement and its ability to deepen our awareness of the present moment. She takes great joy in bearing witness to this and continues to try and create space for people to feel free to investigate and explore what arises.
